John Jenkins is hoping to see a lot of playing time next season.

“This whole thing is a learning experience, and it’s going to be one for a long time,” Jenkins said. “I know a lot of guys have been traded. It’s just an opportunity for me. If I’m going to start, I’m going to have to really work hard for it. I just want to play a lot of minutes.

“As long as I can play a lot of minutes for an NBA team, I think that’s good enough. But I guess everybody wants to say they start for an NBA team.”

Jenkins performed well during summer league games in Las Vegas, averaging 15.6 points on 50.8 percent shooting from the field.

“They (Hawks) think I did really well,” Jenkins said. “I talked to Danny Ferry and he was very pleased. (For my) first games as a professional, I thought to myself I did well. I got guarded very tough … kind of like college almost. I got face-guarded a lot without the ball, and I still worked to get off shots. I’ll try to carry that on into training camp.”
