Like everyone around the NBA, Jannero Pargo was devastated to see Derrick Rose go down with a torn ACL in late April. Pargo hates when players suffer injuries, never mind a former Bulls teammate and Chicago native like Rose.

“You just feel bad for a guy who has worked so hard and accomplished what he’s accomplished,” Pargo told RealGM on Saturday during the “Peace Basketball Tournament” at St. Sabina gym. “You don’t want anybody to get hurt in this league, especially a guy like Derrick who’s very humble and everybody loves him around the league. I just felt bad.”

Pargo still had high praise for the Bulls, especially Rose’s temporary replacement as the starting point guard, Kirk Hinrich – with whom Pargo has spent four out of his eight NBA seasons. Now 31 years old and coming off two straight injury-plagued seasons, Hinrich clearly doesn’t seem as reliable as he once was and many across the league believe he has taken steps back on both ends of the court.

And even so, Pargo is adamant that his longtime backcourt mate hasn’t lost a step and can still impact the game like he always has: With shooting, gritty defense and a high-character presence.

“Not at all,” Pargo said when asked whether Hinrich has regressed over the past two seasons. “Kirk brings leadership, the type of effort you need to win. He’s a very tough defender and plays the right way. Offensively, he’s a very good shooter. I think he’s going to bring a lot to the team, especially under Thibs’ system.”

For his part, Pargo is sorting through a few NBA offers in hopes of signing a contract before training camps open up next week, as RealGM reported on Thursday.

“I’m just going over the offers that I have,” he said. “As of right now … I can’t look overseas because they’re not looking at me.”
