The Brooklyn Nets expected to have more candidates interested in becoming head coach of the team when they decided to fire Avery Johnson, according to a source.

The Nets' top option, Phil Jackson, is not currently interested in taking over the team.

Another candidate, Jeff Van Gundy, has a personal policy of not interviewing for jobs while a coach is already in place.

Both Jackson and Van Gundy figure to be approached in the offseason.

The Nets are not expected to retain P.J. Carlesimo unless the team reaches the Eastern Conference Finals, according to a source.
