Chris Johnson's 10-day contract with the Memphis Grizzlies expires on Friday.

The Grizzlies can sign him to a second 10-day contract or for the remainder of the season.

"I root for these between-the-crack guys," general manager Chris Wallace said. "He's a confident guy without being overbearing about it. He's been a seamless fit. Hopefully, he can keep it up."

Wallace and vice president of basketball operations John Hollinger were impressed by Johnson last month at the D-League showcase. Wallace subsequently saw Johnson again during a D-League trip to Reno where the intention was to watch Tony Wroten.

"I figured why not go to the D-League and play for a chance to get a call-up?" said Johnson, a four-year college player at Dayton. "Once you sign that contract overseas, you're over there for a year. In the D-League, NBA scouts come check you out and look to potentially call you up. I'm grateful that the Griz did and just threw me out there. I'm trying to make the best of this opportunity."
