Free agent point guard Mo Williams will sign a two-year, $5.6 million contract with the Portland Trail Blazers, a league source told RealGM.

Williams’ agent, Mark Bartelstein, announced the signing on Wednesday afternoon. The deal includes a player option for the second season.

Williams garnered high interest throughout free agency and had multiple contenders pursuing him with the veteran’s minimum, but the opportunity with the Blazers will allow him to play significant minutes and potentially increase his value for next offseason.

A 10-year NBA veteran, Williams averaged 12.9 points and 6.2 assists last season, helping lead the Utah Jazz to a solid start before a serious thumb injury. At 30, he has career averages of 13.8 points and five assists while playing with the Jazz, Milwaukee Bucks, Cleveland Cavaliers and Los Angeles Clippers.

Williams was selected to the All-Star team in 2009 with the Cavaliers.
