David Griffin had a press conference on Tuesday, a day after being named the permanent general manager of the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Griffin was adamant that the Cavaliers did not consult Kyrie Irving before firing Byron Scott last year and Mike Brown on Monday.

"Any -- any -- insinuation that Kyrie Irving had anything to do with this decision is patently false," Griffin said, pounding the table where he sat for emphasis. "It's unfair. He was not counseled on this decision, nor was he counseled on the previous decision. It's a completely unfair assertion and one that I want everyone to understand very clearly that is not a narrative we are going to go with."

Griffin declined listing candidates for the Cavaliers' vacancy but said the team could conduct interviews during the Chicago pre-draft combine.

"We do not feel this is a race," Griffin said. "This is not about being first, this is about being right."
