Kent Bazemore received a personal phone call from Boston Celtics head coach Brad Stevens after the start of free agency at midnight, a league source told RealGM.

Bazemore and Stevens have a history and mutual respect: Stevens’ Butler program eliminated Bazemore’s Old Dominion team in the NCAA tournament in 2011.

Bazemore also received free-agent interest from the Dallas Mavericks and Atlanta Hawks.

Bazemore had been a developmental focus of the Golden State Warriors, but the franchise traded him to the Los Angeles Lakers last season. Bazemore, 24, averaged 13.1 points, 3.3 rebounds and 3.1 assists over 23 games and 15 starts for the Lakers.
