Josh Smith has reached agreement with the Los Angeles Clippers, league sources told RealGM.

Smith and the Clippers are finalizing a deal, but the talented veteran has chosen a winning and critical role on a championship contender. Several teams pursued Smith and held discussions with his agents, Wallace Prather and Brian Dyke.

In the end, Smith landed on a legitimate championship contender that has become a leading favorite in the Western Conference by re-signing DeAndre Jordan and Smith. Despite a tremendous finish to the 2014-15 season, there was never a concrete offer for him to return to the Rockets. The Clippers' front office pushed hard for Smith over the last week, and advanced in discussions to sign him Thursday.

Smith averaged 12.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.6 assists in 25.5 minutes per game in 55 appearances with the Rockets.
