Dirk Nowitzki will be shut down for at least one week to rest his sore right Achilles.

Nowitzki left Friday's game after playing 16 first-half minutes.

"He's going to be out for a while," Rick Carlisle said. "We'll update (things) in about seven days. He didn't reinjure the Achilles, it's just lingering. It's not getting better the way it needs to, so we got to shut him down.

"Is it bad news, yes. But we'll get through it. His health is the most important thing. He's more than willing to continue playing, but it's pretty obvious that things just aren't right. We've got to do the right thing here and get it fixed."

Nowitzki said the Achilles has been bothering him since before the season opener.

"Yeah, I felt better after a couple days of not doing anything, but as soon as I got back out there, it went back to the same old," Nowitzki said. "I'm already obviously not moving great at 38 as it is. And to be out there on one leg is not helping myself and not helping the team at all. So we're hopefully going to get this thing right."
