Kyrie Irving conveyed a message to the Cleveland Cavaliers that he would rather not report to training camp than begin another season with the franchise.

Multiple players on the Cavaliers hoped Irving would remain with the team and that the issues could be resolved.

The delay in the Cavaliers finding a trade of Irving came from Dan Gilbert's preference to acquire a "big name guy." The Celtics were always the team the Cavaliers expected to be able to offer the most attractive package with the combination of Isaiah Thomas and additional assets.

"I was hoping Ky was going to get to lead a team," one Cavs player told ESPN. "See what it's like to have the entire franchise on his back."
