Isaiah Thomas will undergo a scope on his hip in New York on Thursday and is expected to have an extended rehabilitation.

In a statement received by ESPN, Dr. Bryan Kelly of the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York said the the minimally invasive procedure is to "clean up the joint of all inflammatory debris related to his injury from last season."

The Lakers could have interest in re-signing Thomas on a one-year deal if they are unsuccessful in signing LeBron James and Paul George. Thomas is unlikely to get a significant long-term financial commitment on the free-agent market.

Thomas will spend time between his offseason home in Seattle and Los Angeles rehabilitating the hip over the next few months. The Lakers have invited Thomas to use their practice facility for his rehab.
