League sources have criticized how the San Antonio Spurs have handled Kawhi Leonard's ongoing injury issues, noticing how they have not protected his image as he recovers from his injury.

Some executives expect the Spurs to receive significant interest from teams looking to trade for Leonard and believe the team may not offer him his full five-year, $219 million supermax extension.

"It would be a mistake," one Western Conference league executive said about the possibility of the Spurs trading Leonard.

Leonard played just nine games this season.
