The Golden State Warriors made a bold trade in 1993 to acquire Chris Webber. Webber lasted for just one season with the Warriors before demanding a trade due to how his relationship with Don Nelson deteriorated. Nelson left the Warriors a few months after that.

Nelson was recently asked if he believes that Warriors' team comprising of Webber, Latrell Sprewell, Chris Mullin and Tim Hardaway could have won a title had they stayed together.

"I didn’t think Webber — at that time in his life, anyway — was ready to play winning basketball, or do anything winning at that point," said Nelson. "He was a pretty confused young guy. He was about the toughest guy I ever coached. It took him a long time."

Nelson went on to coach the Knicks briefly before ending up turning around the Mavericks early in the careers of Dirk Nowitzki and Steve Nash. Nelson ultimately returned to the Warriors in 2006.

Webber reunited with Nelson late in their careers in 2008.
