The Los Angeles Lakers are prepared to wait until 2019 if their top 2018 targets don't commit to them this offseason and that may be related to their confidence in signing Kawhi Leonard in free agency.

There has been speculation that Leonard has interest in signing with the Lakers in 2019.

"That's why [the Lakers] are spinning it into 'wait till next year,'" said one executive. "They know they can get Kawhi."

Leonard would sign a contract worth as much as $70 million more if he agrees upon a supermax extension with the Spurs this offseason as opposed to signing with a rival team in 2019.

Klay Thompson will be another potential target for the Lakers in 2019.
