When the Warriors were set to meet with Kevin Durant in the Hamptons in July of 2016, Klay Thompson arrived one day early.

“I got there a day early,” Thompson recalled recently with a chuckle. “Got to the beach. I was (in New York City) for Team USA Basketball, so I had a couple days. Just enjoying vacation. It was nice out there, man.”

Stephen Curry, Draymond Green, Andre Iguodala, Steve Kerr, Joe Lacob, Bob Myers and the rest of the Warriors’ entourage joined him on June 30 one day before their meeting with Durant.

“When we landed, turns out he’d had the most fun day of all-time,” assistant general manager Kirk Lacob recalled of Thompson. “He’d gone out and played tennis on a grass court, he’d, like, bought all-whites. He’d gone to the beach by himself, rode a bike to the beach. And by the time we got there, he was kicking soccer balls at the house, I think with a gardener at the house.”

"He was screwing around, yeah. Klay’s the best," said Bob Myers. "I think he’s the only one that went out the night before. I think our one rule was: We’d better be on time. So go do whatever you’ve gotta do, and everybody else did something normal. Klay went out, but he made it on time. Think he was half asleep.

"That’s Klay, probably having more fun than all of us."
