The Philadelphia 76ers have hired Monty Williams as their lead assistant coach.

Williams will replace Lloyd Pierce, who was hired as head coach of the Atlanta Hawks.

Williams spent the past two seasons in the front office of the San Antonio Spurs.

Williams was head coach of the New Orleans Pelicans from 2010 until 2015. Williams then became associate head coach of the Oklahoma City Thunder in 15-16, but his wife was killed in car crash in February 2016.
