According to reporting from ESPN, the Los Angeles Lakers would likely clinch a free agent commitment from LeBron James if they are able to agree upon a trade for Kawhi Leonard.

James has until Friday night to opt-out of the final season of his deal with the Cleveland Cavaliers. James hasn't ruled out the possibility of remaining with the Cavaliers, but his odds of staying are murky.

The Lakers attempted to aggressively re-engage the San Antonio Spurs on a trade for Leonard on Wednesday.

There is concern that Paul George may be leaning towards re-signing with the Oklahoma City Thunder, which makes trading for Leonard more necessary for the Lakers to secure a commitment from James.

Leonard is attempting to convince teams that he plans on signing with the Lakers in 2019.
