The Los Angeles Lakers had interest in hiring Tom Thibodeau as an assistant coach on the staff of Tyronn Lue.

Lue pitched the idea of Thibodeau to the Lakers during the interview process. Lue and Thibodeau worked together with the Boston Celtics.

LeBron James also let it be known through intermediaries that he thought Thibodeau would be a huge asset for the Lakers. The role would have been similar to the ones served by Mike Brown and Ron Adams under Steve Kerr with the Golden State Warriors.

But Thibodeau is still owed a considerable amount of money from the Minnesota Timberwolves and he's willing to be patient to wait for a head coaching job.
