Negotiations between the Los Angeles Lakers and Tyronn Lue fell apart over the length of his contract.
Lue was seeking a five-year deal, which has become typical for head coaches. The Lakers, however, only offered a three-year deal. Lue felt his championship experience merited a five-year deal.
Rob Pelinka never expected negotiations to fall apart with Lue since he didn't have any other offers this offseason.
The Lakers' three-year offer was designed to line up with the contract of LeBron James. Lue felt insulted by the Lakers that they only saw him as a coach for James.
