John Beilein emerged as the favorite to fill the Cleveland Cavaliers head coaching vacancy after meeting in person with Dan Gilbert while Koby Altman interviewed candidates in Denver.

There had been mutual interest between the two sides months earlier, though Beilein never emerged as a top candidate due to the improbability that he would leave Michigan.

Beilein was reportedly intrigued by the young talent and fluidity of the Cavs roster.

"I love the position the team is in to build and grow and this was something I felt was the perfect fit for me. With hard work and dedication by all of us, we will grow this team day by day and reinforce a culture of success that sustains itself with strong core values,” said Beilein in a statement.

Financials terms of Beilein's contract have not been released.
