Alvin Gentry wore the same black tie with silver-gray striping that the Cleveland Cavaliers' representative in the draft lottery room wore when they won the lottery three times in four years.

Former vice chair of the Cavaliers Jeff Cohen had represented the team in the drawing room in those lotteries. Dan Gilbert and Cohen reportedly had a falling out and the Cavaliers have not had him in the room for either of the past two lotteries.

David Griffin had phoned Cohen and asked for a good luck charm in the lead-up to the lottery. Griffin asked Cohen to send the tie and it was passed along for Gentry to wear.
