The New York Knicks never approached the New Orleans Pelicans with a formal trade offer for Anthony Davis, an NBA official told Marc Berman of the New York Post.

Berman adds that the Knicks backed off after sensing that they could not match the Pelicans demands.

SNY reported last week that members of the Knicks organization were wary of giving away too many assets to acquire Davis, citing the team's struggles after trading for Carmelo Anthony.

Zach Lowe also reported that the Knicks backed away from trade talks for Davis following the Kevin Durant injury.
