The Miami Heat have banished James Johnson from their training camp as he reported out of shape based on their metrics.

The Heat said in a statement that Johnson "fell short of our conditioning requirements. Once he fulfills and maintains those requirements, he will rejoin the team."

Pat Riley banished Antoine Walker and James Posey during the 2006 preseason for conditioning issues.

Johnson is entering the third year of a four-year contract that includes a player option for 2020-21.

Erik Spoelstra praised Johnson just one day ago.

"He’s been very serious about his work this summer," Spoelstra said. "You can see it in our conditioning day. He did a great job with that. He’s a unique two-way player in his ability to guard one through five when he's healthy and facilitate and make other players better from a hybrid frontcourt position is unique. He's coming in healthy."
