Kristaps Porzingis remained fully committed to remaining with the New York Knicks in the weeks prior to his trade to the Dallas Mavericks.

It is unclear what led him to alter the thinking of Porzingis and ask for a trade.

Some believe the issues Porzingis had were due to a lack of faith that the Knicks could create a winning environment around him.

The Knicks traded Porzingis shortly after a five-minute meeting they had with him and his agent Janis Porzingis.

New York acquired enough cap space to sign two max free agents by trading Porzingis, but they lost out on their hope of signing Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving when they instead chose the Brooklyn Nets. The Knicks still have two future first round picks incoming from the Mavs.
