The Golden State Warriors have agreed to trade D'Angelo Russell to the Minnesota Timberwolves for Andrew Wiggins, a 2021 protected first round pick and a 2021 second round pick.

The Warriors will also send Jacob Evans and Omari Spellman to the Wolves.

The 2021 first round pick is protected to No. 3 in 2021 and becomes unprotected in 2022.

Golden State had preferred a 2021 first round pick over a 2022 selection.

Wiggins has three seasons remaining on his contract ($29.5 million in 20-21, $31.6 million in 21-22 and $33.6 million in 22-23).

The Wolves pursued Russell in the 2019 offseason, but he decided to sign a max contract with the Warriors.

The Warriors successfully got out of the luxury tax with the deal. Golden State would have been subject to the repeater tax had they not gone under this season.
