The NBA released a statement saying they were consulting with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention about the coronavirus.

"The health and safety of our employees, teams, players and fans is paramount. We are coordinating with our teams and consulting with the CDC and infectious disease specialists on the coronavirus and continue to monitor the situation closely," said the NBA in a statement.

There are no immediate plans to postpone games or hold them in empty arenas.

Soccer matches in Italy have been postponed due to outbreak concerns.

The NHL and MLB are also keeping tabs on the coronavirus.

"We are in regular communication with our clubs on the issue and have passed along best practices being recommended by CDC and Public Health Canada medical experts. Most of these steps are common sense precautions, but there definitely involves consciousness raising," said NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly.
