A league source told Sam Amick of The Athletic that the idea of reducing the number of teams entering the bubble from 22 to 16 is not currently being considered.

Multiple general managers told The Athletic that they wondered whether the recent rise in cases would make the NBA reconsider decreasing the number of teams to 16 to begin the playoffs immediately.

A reduction of teams would reduce the risk of a COVID-19 outbreak and also improve the quality of life component.

A decision to reduce the number of teams would require another vote by the National Basketball Players Association.
