The Los Angeles Lakers will hold off on publicly celebrating their NBA title as a precautionary measure due to COVID-19.

"We cannot wait to celebrate our NBA title with our fans. After consulting with the City and the County, we all agree that a joyful and inclusive public celebration will take place as soon as it is safe to do so. In the meantime, thank you again, Lakers Nation, for your support!" announced the team in a statement.

The Lakers arrived back in Los Angeles on Monday.

Around 1,000 people gathered outside of the Staples Center on Sunday following the Lakers' title-clinching win in Game 6.

The event was initially peaceful, though 76 "unruly individuals" were arrested after throwing projectiles at officers.
