A push to begin the 20-21 NBA season on Christmas Day is gaining momentum, sources tell Marc Stein of the New York Times.

The league had never taken Christmas Day off the table as a potential start date, but the conventional wisdom when The Finals ended was that the NBA would delay the start of the season to maximize the potential for games to be attended by fans.

A start on Christmas Day would be considered a win for the NBA's television partners ESPN and TNT.
