The Miami Heat are in the process of signing Bam Adebayo to a full, five-year max contract extension worth $163 million coming off his rookie contract. Zach Lowe of ESPN reports the deal has escalator clauses that could increase the total to $195.6 million over five years.

Adebayo shares an agent with Giannis Antetokounmpo in Alex Saratsis. Antetokounmpo has widely been considered Miami's primary target in 2021 free agency.

By signing Adebayo to an extension, the Heat would likely need to acquire Antetokounmpo via a sign-and-trade. The Heat would have just $26.8 million in cap space after declining all team options while keeping the cap holds of Duncan Robinson and Kendrick Nunn.

If Adebayo were to wait on an extension, the Heat would have his cap hold and additional cap space for 2021.

Adebayo will join De'Aaron Fox, Donovan Mitchell and Jayson Tatum in signing max extensions from the 2017 draft class.
