Luka Doncic intends to sign a supermax contract extension with the Dallas Mavericks worth more than $200 million over five seasons this offseason, multiple league sources tell The Athletic.

But the Mavericks also recognize there is urgency to build a contending team around Doncic after two straight first round eliminations in the playoffs.

There are concerns about the dysfunction within the front office and that Doncic has poor relationships with key members of the franchise, including Haralabos Voulgaris.

Sources say they were also surprised Mark Cuban immediately backed Rick Carlisle when the season ended with some believing Doncic had tuned him out.

Doncic, however, has a healthy relationship with the Mavericks organization at large. Doncic also angled to get drafted by the Mavericks back in 2018.
