The acquisition of the Josh Richardson by the Boston Celtics was yet another signal that Marcus Smart could be traded this offseason. Smart is entering the final season of his contract and was shopped in trades last season as they sought multiple first round picks.

"Brad Stevens has been frustrated by Smart’s unpredictable play in recent years, per sources," writes Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated.

While the Celtics could extend Smart, two people familiar with the thinking of Brad Stevens indicated he's more likely to be traded before the start of the season.

“Probably a first round pick and a rotational player,” a high ranking Eastern Conference executive told Sports Illustrated how he considered Smart to be valued. “Might be able to swap him for similar player that fits a positional need. [Danny Ainge] valued him like an All-Star though—he is not.”
