Masai Ujiri and the Toronto Raptors announced that he will stay with the club as the team's Vice Chairman and President. Ujiri originally joined the Raptors in 2013. Ujiri's contract was set to expire this offseason. Several other NBA teams had pursued him to lead their basketball operations.

Under Ujiri's leadership, Toronto won the NBA championship in 2019. He also led the club through the end of the 2019-20 season through the entirety of the 2020-21 season, when the Raptors were the only team to be forced from home for both seasons. The hope is that the Raptors will return to Toronto for the entire 2021-22 season.

Ujiri has led an offseason of transition for the Raptors. Star guard Kyle Lowry is being signed-and-traded to the Miami Heat, signaling a changing of the guard in Toronto. In recent years, Ujiri has re-signed Pascal Siakam, Fred VanVleet and OG Anunoby. He also re-signed Gary Trent Jr. this offseason and added Scottie Barnes with the fourth pick in the 2021 NBA Draft.
