The Houston Rockets waived forward Sekou Doumbouya. Houston will have a cap hit of $3.6 million in dead money if Doumbouya goes unclaimed on waivers.
The Rockets acquired Doumbouya and a future second round pick from the Brooklyn Nets earlier in the week. The plan was that Houston would waive Doumbouya. The trade saved the Nets over $6 million in actual dollars, given Doumbouya's salary and the luxury tax penalties for Brooklyn.
The 6-foot-8 forward out of Guinea was selected with the 15th pick by the Detroit Pistons at the 2019 NBA Draft. In 04 games (30 starts) in two seasons for the Pistons, Doumbouya averaged 5.6 points and 2.8 rebounds. Given that Doumbouya won't turn 21 years old until late-December, there is a good chance another team will pick him up as a developmental prospect.
