Luka Doncic's 2021-22 season hasn't started as he hoped it would, either for him as an individual or for the Dallas Mavericks. Doncic has taken heat in recent weeks for his conditioning and slower style of play. That's something the Mavs star is taking some ownership over.

Doncic acknowledged the concerns about his weight and conditioning by saying "I know I've got to do better." Doncic also hinted that he might have come into the season out of shape.

"I had a long summer," said Doncic. "I had the Olympics, took three weeks off, and I relaxed a little bit. Maybe too much. I've just got to get back on track."

Doncic also said he's still struggling after spraining his left ankle last month. That injury, combined with a sprained left knee and a sprained left thumb, have hampered Doncic in his ability to improve his conditioning.

"It's still painful, but I try to play and try to practice," Doncic said of the sprained ankle. "But it's still painful."
