If the New York Knicks successfully trade for Donovan Mitchell, they could pivot to a trade of Julius Randle to shed future salary, a source told Marc Sten.

One team that could consider trading for Randle are the Los Angeles Lakers, who could use Russell Westbrook as a makeweight. New York's interest in Westbrook is as a contract and could initiate a buyout discussion.

The Lakers are currently attempting to use Westbrook in a trade for Kyrie Irving. They have also been linked to possible trades for Eric Gordon and Buddy Hield.

Westbrook is on a $47.1 million expiring contract.

Randle is entering Year 1 of a four-year, $117 million deal. Randle played his first four NBA seasons with the Lakers.
