The Phoenix Suns were "steadfast" that Cam Johnson was "off limits" during their pursuit of a Kevin Durant trade, sources tell Jake Fischer of Yahoo! Sports.

The Suns hope to sign Johnson to an extension in the range of $72 million over four years.

Phoenix is pivoting to Johnson in the starting lineup over Jae Crowder, who is on an expiring contract and is likely to be traded at some point.

The Suns selected Johnson with the 11th overall pick in the 2019 draft, which was a surprise to many based on consensus draft boards. But Johnson has clearly justified the selection with his play.
