The Detroit Pistons had initially planned to pursue Monty Williams as head coach had they won the lottery with the opportunity to select Victor Wembanyama, and sources tell Marc Stein that they followed through with that plan even though they dropped to No. 5.

Detroit's plan was not successful as Williams has reportedly turned down the opportunity.

Williams is owed over $20 million over the next three seasons with the Phoenix Suns, giving him the opportunity to be picky with his next coaching job.

The Pistons reportedly have narrowed their coaching search to Kevin Ollie, Jarron Collins and Charles Lee.
