Monty Williams and the Detroit Pistons have agreed to a six-year, $72 million deal for him to become their new head coach.

The Pistons have aggressively pursued Williams this offseason after his dismissal by the Phoenix Suns. Williams had $21 million over three years remaining on his contract with the Suns. Williams' deal could reach $100 million over eight seasons based on team options and incentives.

The Pistons also had interest in Charles Lee and Kevin Ollie, but were clearly trying to convince Williams to take the job.

The Suns hired Williams in 2019 and he helped turnaround their franchise after several losing seasons despite the presence of Devin Booker.
