Trey Johnson arrived two weeks before training camp and spent time learning the playbook from star point guard Chris Paul. It turned out all that preparation time and having the ability to play both guard positions weren't enough as the Hornets waived the undrafted free agent on Thursday.

In his final game Wednesday night, Johnson played five minutes and went scoreless after making only one shot attempt against the Atlanta Hawks. In seven games, he averaged 5.0 points. Johnson was in a battle for the final roster spot with second-round draft pick Adam Haluska, who plays shooting guard.
