Patrick Ewing Jr. is joining the Knicks' D-League affiliate in Reno, and is expected to sign with the NBA team once the futures of Cuttino Mobley and Stephon Marbury are decided.

Mobley's possible retirement because of heart issues would create a roster spot for Ewing, who became an instant fan favorite during the preseason prior to his release.

Ewing Jr. is free to sign with any team, but he would prefer to play with the club that his father led to two NBA Finals in the 1990s.
