Magic forward Matt Barnes plans to appeal the $20,000 fine he received for throwing a basketball into the stands last week.

"I think that's a little much. I completely understand the fine, but $20,000 is ridiculous," Barnes said Saturday. "So we'll see."

Barnes threw the ball into the stands after Orlando's 99-98 loss to Miami. He didn't block out Michael Beasley, who caught Dwyane Wade's air-ball and dunked it with 1.7 seconds left.

"They have said if the ball goes into the stands, you're getting fined. That's a good rule. You have to stop things from going into the stands," coach Stan Van Gundy said.
