The Cleveland Cavaliers have picked up their team option on the contract of Kendrick Perkins for the 18-19 season.

The decision is a cap ploy in order to try to aggregate his $2.5 million contract along with an existing contract to pursue a trade around the league.

Perkins' contract is non-guaranteed for the time being. The Cavs would have to guarantee the contract in order to include it in a potential trade.

The Perkins move points to the Cavs' willingness to add extra salary to their roster when they are already set to be a luxury-tax payer for next season.
