Daryl Morey expects Royce White to play the remaining four regular-season games with the Rio Grande Vipers before a decision is reached about him playing in the playoffs.
“We’ll see where it goes from there,” Morey said. “The plan is to play it by ear. See what the best plan is at that point when we reach the end.”
White said on Wednesday that a plan for him to leave the Vipers at the end of the regular season has been in place for several weeks, citing the “hectic” schedule of the D-League playoffs.

White returned to the Rio Grande Valley Vipers on Tuesday and scored 19 points, grabbed eight rebounds and handed out six assists in a 104-94 win over Tulsa.
“I’ll be here until the end of the regular season,” White said after the game. “The playoff schedule and how hectic it is in the D-League probably ain’t going be the best thing for me. Going to the playoffs, I want them to have a team that’s going to stick together.”
White chose not to answer questions about why he left the Vipers last week.
Five days after he left the team, Royce White has returned to the Rio Grande Valley Vipers.
White announced on Twitter that he had returned to the D-League affiliate and that a "miscommunication" with the Rockets had been cleared up. He said last week that he left the team and returned to Houston on the advice of a team doctor.
The Rockets have had no comment on the matter.
Rio Grande Valley’s Andrew Goudelock and Fort Wayne’s Tony Mitchell have been named NBA Development League Co-Performers of the Week for games played March 18 – March 24. This is the second time Mitchell has received Performer of the Week honors this season.
Goudelock (6-3, 200, College of Charleston) led the Vipers to a 3-0 week averaging 26.3 points on 60 percent shooting from the field to go with 5.7 assists and 2.7 rebounds. He scored a season-high 41 points on 16-of-23 shooting on March 24 in a 116-107 win over the Fort Wayne Mad Ants, which helped Rio Grande Valley clinch a playoff berth. In 31 games for Rio Grande Valley this season he is averaging 20.8 points, 5.9 assists 4.3 rebounds and 37.3 minutes.
Mitchell (6-6, 216, Alabama) finished the week averaging 34.3 points, 7.3 rebounds and 3.7 assists while shooting 46 percent from the floor. On March 22 he connected on a game-tying three-pointer as time expired in double overtime, then nailed a game-winning jumpshot in triple overtime to lock down a 106-104 victory over Austin. Mitchell finished with a game-high 47 points, the second highest total in the league this season.
After declaring to leave the Rio Grande Valley Vipers of the NBA D-League, Royce White posted on his Twitter account that he will rejoin the Houston Rockets next season.
"AGAIN, no one is quitting ANYTHING, just getting prepared 4 next season with the @HoustonRockets... I'm very excited, can't wait to rejoin," White wrote on his verified account.
White had said he was returning to Houston but not to join the Rockets.
The Rockets selected White with the 16th pick in last year's draft, but both sides have dealt with constant back and forth differences centering on how to compromise about the forward's mental state.

White appeared in 12 games for the Vipers and averaged 9.6 points and 5.6 rebounds, making 41.6 percent of his shots and 62 percent of his free throws.

Rice, Jr. (6-6, 215, Georgia Tech) averaged 24.0 points on 48 percent shooting from the floor to go with 11.0 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 36.7 minutes as the Vipers went 3-0 on the week. He began the week on March 5, posting 20 points and 14 boards in a 115-111 win over the Iowa Energy and returned the next night to finish with 29 points and 11 rebounds in a 118-110 victory over the Austin Toros. In the back to back home victories, Rice, Jr. connected on seven of 16 shots from behind the arc.
The Los Angeles Clippers have signed Maalik Wayns to a 10-day contract.
Wayns was a non-guaranteed contract casualty in January by the Philadelphia 76ers. He was later signed to a 10-day contract by the 76ers.
Wayns has since been in the D-League with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers.
Wayns played collegiately at Villanova.
The Houston Rockets have waived Tyler Honeycutt to create a roster spot for Aaron Brooks.
Honeycutt had been playing for the Rio Grande Valley Vipers of the D-League.
Honeycutt was traded by the Kings to the Rockets at the deadline.
