Robert Upshaw's D-League Contract Terminated For Drug Violation

The NBA Development League announced that Los Angeles D-Fenders center Robert Upshaw’s playing services have been terminated, effective immediately, for violating the league’s Anti-Drug Program.

Upshaw went undrafted out of Washington in the 2015 NBA Draft and was with the Los Angeles Lakers in both the Summer League and preseason.

Upshaw averaged 7.3 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.4 blocks in 15.6 minutes over 28 games in the D-League this season. Upshaw also had a PER of 13.7.

D-Fenders Acquire Jeff Ayres

The Los Angeles D-Fenders have acquired Jeff Ayres from the Idaho Stampede in exchange for the D-Fenders own 2016 first round draft pick.

Ayres has appeared in 225 career NBA games for the Trail Blazers, Pacers, Spurs and Clippers, with career averages of 3.0 points and 2.7 rebounds in 9.9 minutes. The 2016 NBA D-League All-Star has seen action in 25 games (23 starts) for the Idaho Stampede this season, tallying 16.2 points (55.8 FG%), 9.2 rebounds and 2.3 assists in 32.4 minutes.

In 126 career games at Arizona State (2005-09), Ayres averaged 12.6 points (58.0 FG%), 7.5 rebounds and 1.0 blocks per game. Ayres earned First Team All-Pac-10 honors as a senior, scoring 14.5 points and grabbing 8.2 rebounds per game. Ayres shot 66.0% from the field as a senior, tops in the NCAA.

Vander Blue Named D-League Player Of The Month

Vander Blue of the Los Angeles D-Fenders has been named NBA Development League Player of the Month for games played in February. 

Blue (6-4, 200, Marquette) sparked Los Angeles to a 7-2 month, averaging 30.7 points, 4.9 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 1.8 steals. He shot 47.3 percent from the field (86-for-182) and connected on 36.2 percent of his three-point attempts (17-of-47).

Blue scored at least 20 points in every game and was named Performer of the Week for games played from Feb. 15-21. On Feb. 6, he registered 39 points, five assists, four rebounds and three steals in a 126-112 win over the Santa Cruz Warriors. On Feb. 27, he tallied 35 points, four rebounds, four assists and three steals in a 117-107 victory over the Idaho Stampede. His 16 made free throws tied a season high for most in a game this season.

Blue is in his third NBA D-League season and has played for the Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Lakers over the past three seasons. He’s averaging 26.0 points (fourth in the league), 5.3 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 2.0 steals (tied for sixth in the league).
