Khalif Wyatt Wins Top Atlantic-10 Honor

Temple's Khalif Wyatt has been named the Atlantic-10 Player of the Year.

Joining Wyatt on the All-Conference First Team are Rotnei Clarke of Butler, Dwayne Evans of Saint Louis, La Salle's Ramon Galloway and Chaz Williams of Massachusetts.

Briante Weber of VCU was named Defensive Player of the Year and Semaj Christon of Xavier won Rookie of the Year honors.

Rick Majerus Passes Away At 64

Rick Majerus has passed away at the age of 64 in a Los Angeles hospital due to heart failure.

Majerus had a history of heart problems and announced last month that he would not be returning as head coach of Saint Louis due to his heart condition.

Majerus had an overall record of 517-216 at four colleges, including an outstanding 323-95 mark at Utah from 1989-2004.

Majerus also coached at Marquette and Ball State.

Rick Majerus Retires Due To Heart Condition

Rick Majerus has retired because of a serious heart condition.

Majerus already had taken a leave of absence this season from Saint Louis to address his health issues.

On Friday afternoon, the school announced that he would be unable to return to coaching at any point.

“Coach Majerus’ health is of the utmost importance, and our thoughts and prayers are with him as he faces his challenges,” Saint Louis athletics director Chris May said in a statement. “We are thankful for Rick’s efforts as he succeeded by all accounts as our head men’s basketball coach. This is an exciting season for the program, and we think it is important to communicate, with transparency, to the student-athletes, staff and our loyal fans that Rick will not be returning. Majerus remains in California to deal with the problem."

Majerus retires with a 517-216 record in 25 years as a head coach at Marquette, Ball State, Utah and Saint Louis.

Rick Majerus Will Take Leave Of Absence For 12-13

Rick Majerus will not coach the 12-13 season for St. Louis as he deals with a health issues related to his heart.

Jim Crews has been named interim head coach.

"Rick is in a California hospital undergoing evaluation and treatment for an ongoing heart condition," Director of Athletics Chris May said. "His health is the most important issue right now, and our hope is for full and complete recovery."
