The other is a 78-year-old, white, Jewish World War II veteran who spent 12 terms in the North Carolina Senate. You think the chance of them being best friends most would think would be pretty slim, right? Think again.
Davis on Rauch: "He's always going to be a great inspiration to me. And a person that I know I can bounce things off of and talk to and get advice like a mentor. We just hit it off from the first time we met. I remembered him from the way he was. He knew nothing about me, but he made me feel special."
Rauch on Davis: "We talk philosophy and what's available in life and the tremendous opportunity that he has at his age. About how fortunate he is and the impression that he can and does make on youngsters. I really believe he's a great role model for these kids. He's got fine habits as a person and we're proud of him and believe he has unlimited possibilities. I enjoy his reaction to me. I think we have a very good relationship."
