Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports: General Manager Randy Pfund said Tuesday that among the reasons there has been so little personnel news from the Heat recently is the team is nearly finished putting together its roster.
Pfund said despite holding a $3.3 million trade exception, it is possible the franchise uses only part or none of it because of the goal of remaining below the impending luxury tax on excessive team payrolls.
Pfund said the Heat continues to work with agent Don Cronson, the representative for free agent Anthony Mason, possibly on a sign-and-trade transaction that could deliver a final piece of the roster.
Of the Heat's remaining free agents, forward A.C. Green is more likely to return than Cedric Ceballos, Duane Causwell or Todd Fuller. The Heat seemingly also has cooled on the possibility of adding free-agent point guard Rod Strickland.
