Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports: With the Heat's 3-point shooting depleted by the offseason defections of Dan Majerle, Tim Hardaway and Bruce Bowen, Pat Riley's team restocked Friday by signing veteran swingman Sam Mack.
According to the Chicago Tribune, last fall, Mack was ordered to drug treatment as part of a plea agreement in Cook County, Ill. The newspaper reported Mack was arrested July 11, 2000 after officers attempting to stop him for a traffic violation said they found 19 bags of marijuana, one rock of cocaine, a scale and more than $2,800. He was charged with a misdemeanor count of marijuana possession and a felony count of cocaine possession.
With five years in the league, Mack was eligible for a salary of $653,350. However, for purposes of computing the salary cap and luxury tax, he would count only at the four-year threshold of $591,000.
In other news, Former NBA player Chris Morris has been working out with the Heat.
