First-year Trail Blazers coach Maurice Cheeks filled out his coaching staff Thursday by hiring Caldwell Jones and Herb Brown as assistants.

Jones played in the NBA and ABA for 17 years, mostly with the Philadelphia 76ers. He also spent four seasons with the Blazers, from 1985-89. Jones played on the 1982-83 Sixers team that won the title.

Brown spent the last two seasons with working as an assistant to Philadelphia coach Larry Brown, his younger brother. Herb Brown also coached the Detroit Pistons in the late 1970s.
